The words to this song are written on the very walls of the hall we are singing in. You can see the intensity in their faces and their wonderful response at the end. This was a major encounter with God for our group.! Grace and Peace, Mr. G HOORAY! All Photos now uploaded....all links now working. If you discover a problem, text or email me and I will repair. If you have photos you would like for me to add to our blog, please send to me: [email protected] Today was our last concert together. I just want to take this opportunity to that Brian and Kendell for their friendship and leadership. They spend all of their energy putting us in the spotlight....but in truth it is their leadership that drives our learning, passion, and resulting closer walk with God. Why not leave them a message on this blog right here by clicking the "Sunday Morning - Our Final Concert for Beach Blast 2012" headline....scroll down....and post your message.! Enjoy these final photos. If anyone needs a dvd of all photos....I am betting it will be available at our next fundraiser along with a musical slideshow i am already putting together. Love you....mean it! Mr. G (aka....ALTERNATOR MAN) SUNDAY PHOTOS Packing up, heading to our FAVORITE destination....HOME, but first a sacred time on the beach with the Lord's Supper, then off to Mammy's Kitchen for a late breakfast, and finally a quick stop at Street Reach Mission to drop off a love offering. Look for one more day to be added soon which will contain the video links! Grace and peace, Scott Day 6 Photos - Heading Home Today was filled with anticipation as we returned to the Street Reach Mission for more work and another concert. Would we continue to encounter God as we joined Him in his work? It was the last concert on the road for the seniors, so tonight we celebrate their accomplishments and take time to speak directly with them. Today was filled with anticipation as we returned to the Street Reach Mission for more work and another concert. Would we continue to encounter God as we joined Him in his work? It was the last concert on the road for the seniors, so tonight we celebrate their accomplishments and take time to speak directly with them. Yes, back to Street Reach Mission for another round of the same projects we worked with yesterday. Even so, our youth jumped in with tremendous enthusiasm and I must admit their creativity and sense of humor abounded! Some of our youth were even involved in the food preparation. We unloaded all the handbells and prepared to give them a concert they would not soon forget. I must say that all of our church handbell choirs are outstanding in their on right. Our youth played their heats out and the response from the audience at Street Reach was the most heartfelt of all our concerts. GOD IS GREAT! From Street Reach we headed for Heritage Place to perform an outdoor concert due to lack of room inside. This was a FULL concert including bells, and YES...it was hot. The tiredness certainly registered on our faces while setting up and waiting....but once the music began we were on top of our game again. Again, as we looked into the faces of our audience we saw...stories! For the rest of the evening it was fun and games as we traveled to the heart of Myrtle Beach for Ripley's and then off to Broadway at the Beach for dinner and SHOPPING! My team (The Flying Monkeys) chose to dine in style at Caprize...a really nice upscale Italian Restaurant. Just ask Mattie or any of the Middle School Guys (aka...the Flying Monkeys) and they will fill you in on our amazing culinary adventure. We decided to wait traffic out after the fireworks by having devotions on the bus. This was a solum occasion as we had our time to address the many positive contributions of this group of seniors. The seniors had their turn to address us, and finally the chaperons got their chance. I decided to pass (a very rare thing for me) as I was a bit emotional and I knew I had this blog where I could write more coherent thoughts. So here goes: Mr. G's Final Thoughts for our Seniors: Some of you once were my students at Rankin School. Others of you I have grown to know through the years in our church. All of you have become very special to me in our youth activities at our church. Thank you for having a positive impact on my life and the lives of others in our church and community. One school is now finished...and another begins. Go forth and do great things! I leave you with one of my very favorite scripture passages: 8 He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. --Micah 6:8 New International Version (NIV)-- Grace and Peace, Mr. G PHOTOS DAY 5 I still consider myself the newbie on our Mission and Music Ministry Trips (I guess you can see I have dropped the word TOUR as I feel it is somewhat misleading when it comes to describing what we really do and accomplish on these trips)..anyway,..I have learned quickly in the past two trips that God is waiting for us to show up somewhere....and when we find HIM...the blessings are going to be BIG. In fact, I have also learned that our encounters will be many...often where we least expect Him. I think you already see where I am heading...and YES...we had a big encounter with God today. The photo on this page is BEFORE we began work at Street Reach Mission here in Myrtle Beach. The manager who had worked with Brian was away and the regular staff were a bit overwhelmed when 40 of us stepped off the bus ready to go to work. Even so, we began to peel off in smaller groups to begin our work. On the outside it was a much needed weeding of their vegetable garden, emptying 12 trash cans on their property, picking up trash along with about a 1000 cigarette butts! Meanwhile the inside crews had 90 vinyl floor mattresses to clean and sanitize, bathrooms to scrub, floors to sweep and mop, and some general sprucing up to do. Still, the staff struggled to find enough for us to do and I began to question the value of our being here. (BIG MISTAKE.....when will I ever learn that God is not asking for a big "spotlight....look at me stuff"?) While working we noticed men and women segregated into small groups outside having Bible Study. Everyone we saw had a story...you could see it on their faces. As I was outside supervising, a man who looked pretty haggard walked up to me and said he noticed on the bus we were from Mount Holly. He recognized me as a teacher in Mount Holly and I remembered his son. Soon his story began to spill out....loss of job a Freightliner....moving to the beach to find work and live with in-laws.....a wife who left him.....in-laws who were very abusive with alcohol and were dragging him down the same path....depression over loss of wife....and finally a small voice that told him he had to leave and get away from his alcohol abuse. He has now been with Street Reach for about three months and is living in the dorm. He has no car and his wordily possessions fit into his one large duffle bag. Street Reach has now placed him in a job, takes him to work each day, provides shelter and food while he saves his money to become independent again. With HIS blessings upon me, I turned to go back inside where we prepared for lunch and our concert. I worked to help move our youth through as quickly as possible as we were placed in front of the residents who lived here. I continued to look into their eyes and could see God's work in their lives. Yes, each person's face had a deeply sad story locked inside, but whenever I would speak to one of them their face would light up, they would smile, and then thank us for coming. We quickly finished eating and prepared for our concert. We sang our first song and when we finished we received a HUGE round of applause with shouts of amen and alleluia. This sea of sad faces were now bright and shining with love and appreciation as we administered God's hope through our music. THE BIG ENCOUNTER WITH GOD HAD BEGUN! So, what is the rest of the story? How did it end? What will happen when we return on Tuesday? For the rest of the story (as Paul Harvey would say)...ask any of our youth. The story will be in their hearts ready to be shared with you. The photos will tell you about the rest of the day....unfortunately the internet service is worse than ever. I have been uploading 235 photos for you for the past hour....so far...only two uploads. You may need to return here later for the photography. When you can count 233 photos...you will know you have seen them all! Oh yes...we DID see dolphins on our Dolphin Watch Cruise this evening Grace and peace, Mr. G Day 4 Photography PS: To leave your thoughts and comments on this blog...just click each day's heading and open Another very FULL day. This was our Whitesville day, and as most of you know...a return for Kendell to his previous pastorate. I do believe Kendel found this to be a bit challenging to go back to his former church, but once our youth took the stage....the pressure dissolved and he sat back there with a smile that could melt the entire community as our youth sang and played. He could not have been prouder! We were on the bus at 8:30 and arrived back here around 10:45. I am sure these young folks will slip into sleep quite soon. It is almost midnight here at poolside....and Kendel has joined me. This is always a special time of the evening that Kendell and I enjoy as we reflect on the experiences of the day. We share snippets of our experiences with each other...many humorous and many reflect the depth of spiritual growth we are observing. I will not be uploading any videos here as their internet service just crawls. I will stick with photos....but I promise to add videos once we return home. Something to look forward to! I must say the folks at Whitesville received us with open arms....even provided a pizza lunch for us. The lake was awesome and you will see some of the reasons why when you view photos of their pier. Over 6000 hand planted flowers are growing on his pier. The 12 layer chocolate cake was not bad either. Ask Nathan....he invented a new dessert for me....take a plate....add banana pudding one inch thick....top with 12 layer chocolate cake! YUM!! One of my favorite parts of the day (and the trip) is the time we are sharing here beside the ocean at the end of each day....Brian asks the opened ended question..."share what happened to you today." Besides many hilarious situations our youth share willingly, there always comes a turn to the more serious things including their own observations of their spiritual growth. I suppose I could video this, but then again....it is an intimate time meant for the moment. We are hopeful you will find some time as family when they return to ask the same question Brian asked and allow them to sure with you. I suggest that you just open up each day's blog and allow them to talk to you about the photos....for behind every picture...there is a story. Many will bring tears of laughter...and some.....other kinds of tears. The performance for the Boys and Girls Club went very well indeed, and you could tell that many of these "forgotten" youth moved from...WHY ARE YOU MAKING US LISTEN TO THIS....to..."GOSH....COULD WE HAVE A CHOIR LIKE THIS?? As always, I could write volumes, but for those who know me....a picture is worth thousands of words...so most of our story will be told with the photography. You will not see as many photos of our performing as Brian somehow believes he needs me as a tenor! Trying to recapture my younger days when I was a tenor is a bit challenging as I want to make everything bass...but I confess to you that singing with these young people has become one of the true joys of my life. ENJOY! Grace and peace, -g- Day 3 Photos |
