Another very FULL day. This was our Whitesville day, and as most of you know...a return for Kendell to his previous pastorate. I do believe Kendel found this to be a bit challenging to go back to his former church, but once our youth took the stage....the pressure dissolved and he sat back there with a smile that could melt the entire community as our youth sang and played. He could not have been prouder!
We were on the bus at 8:30 and arrived back here around 10:45. I am sure these young folks will slip into sleep quite soon. It is almost midnight here at poolside....and Kendel has joined me. This is always a special time of the evening that Kendell and I enjoy as we reflect on the experiences of the day. We share snippets of our experiences with each other...many humorous and many reflect the depth of spiritual growth we are observing.
I will not be uploading any videos here as their internet service just crawls. I will stick with photos....but I promise to add videos once we return home. Something to look forward to! I must say the folks at Whitesville received us with open arms....even provided a pizza lunch for us. The lake was awesome and you will see some of the reasons why when you view photos of their pier. Over 6000 hand planted flowers are growing on his pier. The 12 layer chocolate cake was not bad either. Ask Nathan....he invented a new dessert for me....take a plate....add banana pudding one inch thick....top with 12 layer chocolate cake! YUM!!
One of my favorite parts of the day (and the trip) is the time we are sharing here beside the ocean at the end of each day....Brian asks the opened ended question..."share what happened to you today." Besides many hilarious situations our youth share willingly, there always comes a turn to the more serious things including their own observations of their spiritual growth. I suppose I could video this, but then again....it is an intimate time meant for the moment. We are hopeful you will find some time as family when they return to ask the same question Brian asked and allow them to sure with you. I suggest that you just open up each day's blog and allow them to talk to you about the photos....for behind every picture...there is a story. Many will bring tears of laughter...and some.....other kinds of tears.
The performance for the Boys and Girls Club went very well indeed, and you could tell that many of these "forgotten" youth moved from...WHY ARE YOU MAKING US LISTEN TO THIS....to..."GOSH....COULD WE HAVE A CHOIR LIKE THIS??
As always, I could write volumes, but for those who know me....a picture is worth thousands of words...so most of our story will be told with the photography. You will not see as many photos of our performing as Brian somehow believes he needs me as a tenor! Trying to recapture my younger days when I was a tenor is a bit challenging as I want to make everything bass...but I confess to you that singing with these young people has become one of the true joys of my life.
ENJOY! Grace and peace, -g-
